Hi! My name is Tony and I am the Wandering Wilbury. I first started using Wandering Wilbury in 2009 trying to find a name for a Facebook photo folder with random shots I had taken on my travels. Originally from the Southwest of England I am lucky to currently live in beautiful South Lake Tahoe, California.
What is a Wandering Wilbury? Well, this is me:
“wan·der·ing”
adjective: wandering
traveling aimlessly from place to place; itinerant.
“wil.bury”
noun: wilbury
A gremlin; a mythological creature that is mischievous, mechanically oriented, and extremely devious.
I first traveled abroad in 1979 on a school bus trip to Paris via an English Channel Ferry! In 1981, I flew for the first time to Austria on a school ski trip to Axamer Lizum – We actually flew into Munich and had took a bus to the resort. I was hooked and at that time neither my Mother or Sister had ever been on a plane. In 1983, we went on our first family holiday abroad to the Spanish Balearic Island of Ibiza – I sat next to my Mother and comforted her during her first ever flight, as I was the expert who had flown before! I am always reminded that on the return flight, Spandau Ballet were sat in front of us, returning from a gig – It’s true!
Flying with British Caledonian in 1983
I am lucky to have worked in the travel industry in one form or another for the past 25 years! I travel for pleasure with my family and on business where I always try to spin some bleisure!
“bleisure”
noun: bleisure
business + leisure = bleisure; it is a portmanteau
A new breed of traveler is mixing business with leisure on so-called “bleisure” trips
I am always in search of new and unique experiences which more often than not are found in off the beaten track locations. At the time of writing I have traveled to 41 countries and look to add to that number each year. I hope you enjoy my stories, reports and tips as I continue to wander around, in my mischievous way!
